A FABLE FROM ON THE LIGHT SIDE

"In Search of Holyville"

Chapter II

By

C.A.K.

(Our good friend, Simon Peter continues his quest to find holiness in "Holyville". Along the way he makes friends with Paul Andrew.)

Simon watched the old man walk down the street and out of sight but his last words kept going around and around in Simon’s mind.

"You have Jesus in your heart and a brain in your head.

You can surely direct yourself and do what you said".

Simon knew Jesus was in his heart and he knew he had a brain in his head but he didn’t know if he could direct himself to find holiness in Holyville. He just didn’t stab in the air.

Simon had always been a very detailed, organized man who did nothing without a plan. So Simon ventured from his bench to begin to put together a plan but first he had to have more information and a little inspiration. As he crossed the street he saw a little shop called Inspirations and Simon thought to himself that maybe this was going to be a lot easier than what the old man predicted. So across the street and into this little shop he went looking for inspiration on his journey for truth and holiness.

In a few minutes, Simon came running out of the gift shop with visions of dissent dancing in his head. The old man said the answer was close by, but surely he didn’t mean this little shop of horrors. On his way home the visions of dissent kept dancing in his head. The Cathedral Heritage Foundation’s gift shop was not "Catholic" but Simon couldn’t figure out exactly what it was. It had Bibles but it also had the Koran and other books and gifts centered on Mohammed. Simon could have sworn that he saw visions of the devil prancing around the shop. Surely it was just the red devil head Christmas ornament that hung on the wall. Man, he had to get home.

When Simon arrived home he noticed his new neighbor weeding his flowerbed. He decided this was a good time to introduce himself and get his mind off his vision of the devil. Simon’s new neighbor was younger

than Simon was but he soon learned they had a lot in common. When Simon explained his journey to find holiness his neighbor, Paul Andrew, suggested he go to church with him and surely he would find holiness because this is where he, Paul, had found holiness when he couldn’t find it in the Catholic Church.

Sunday came and there was Paul waiting to take Simon to church with him. When they were about a mile from the church traffic began to back up. Simon thought this has to be it because of all the people heading in the same direction. Simon felt a sense of excitement as they slowly drove toward the huge church with the golden cross sparkling in the sunlight high in the blue sky.

The cars rolled in side by side.

Directed by police so none would collide.

The greeter cheerfully stood by the door.

She directed each person as if in a store.

Simon and Paul were early they got a choice seat.

As they sat down Simon could hear his heart beat.

He looked around for the altar and other holy things.

But all Simon saw was a harp with gold strings.

There was a large pool with clear glass on the side.

And cameras, video screens and a stage oh so wide.

The harp player played and the drummer drummed.

The piano player jammed, the electric guitarists strummed.

The music started with a big bang.

And it didn’t take long to get the hang.

The words to the song appeared on the big screen.

So all of the people could follow the routine.

Some people clapped and some people danced.

All Simon could do was set in a trance.

Then the screens erupted with a baptism video.

Telling all that immersion is the only way to go.

Sin will not stick if your head goes under.

Sprinkling will only send you down yonder.

The preacher entered from the left-wing.

The cameras rolled as if he were king.

Sprinkling is out and dunking is in.

That was the message he had to sink in.

They passed out the Lord’s supper as crackers and juice

And were told to partake whenever they choose.

Some held it awhile and listened in glee

While others just wanted to wait and to see.

Simon looked around to see people he knew.

They all seemed to think this was all true.

That night as Simon was saying prayers in his bed.

A pure, white dove flew into his head.

The message was clear, the words were quite blunt.

Simon knew then that he must continue the hunt.

No matter how good the preacher may sound

It is our Creator to whom we are bound.

God only, we love, worship and adore.

Worship should go to the preacher no more.

You must have courage to say what needs to be said.

You must boldly say what is right in your head.

The truth must be spoken, no matter the cost.

The truth has to be heard from the heavenly host.

Satan wants us to believe Jesus does not exist.

Not to believe in the power of the Eucharist.

Evil will be glorious when we say not one thing.

When people forget Jesus Christ is our king.

Go get Paul and show him the way.

Believe and tell all what Jesus did say.

"You have Jesus in your heart and a brain in your head.

With the Holy Spirit you can do what you said."

Editor’s note: Simon Peter and Paul Andrew will continue their search for holiness in the next issue.
